How to make the most of your GP appointment

Please be aware we have 15 minutes per appointment.

We recommend 1 problem per appointment.

If you wish to discuss multiple issues please mention this at the start of the consultation so that together we can prioritise what can safely be dealt with today during your 15 minute appointment.

The main reason for this is ‘clinical safety’. Presenting the GP with multiple problems in one 15 minute consultation means that there is a real increased risk that mistakes will be made and things missed as the clinician may be inclined to rush, particularly if other patients are waiting.

Doctors cannot see huge numbers of patients with multiple problems and continue to practice safely and effectively. A stressed doctor will struggle to be a good and safe doctor.

Therefore, please do not be offended if the clinician asks you to rebook for your other problems.

ARMED FORCES

If you are an ex-service man or woman, or are a reservist or cadet, or are currently in the Armed Forces please let us know so we can update your records. Ex-Armed Forces personnel are able to access specific ex-service personnel’s health services and receive any priority treatment that they may be entitled to.
